Our new analysis shows that between 2015 and 2024, annual per-capita costs in CSS’s basic insurance rose by CHF 797 – and premiums are increasing faster than overall health care costs. The main reason is that new services are continuously being added to the catalogue of benefits covered by mandatory health insurance.

Rising physicians’ costs and spending on medications explain a large part of this trend. Particularly important here are “new” drugs that were only added to the basic insurance benefits catalogue after 2015.
